With
four months left to the start of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Nasamu
Yakubu the goalkeepers’ coach of the senior national team, the Black
Stars has categorically stated that he does not have a ‘permanent number
one’ yet.
Nasamu Yakubu who was explaining
the decision to rest recent number one Fatau Dauda from the
international friendly against Montenegro on March 5 says he can only
stick his neck out on who will be Ghana’s first choice after the Black
Stars complete their preparations for the mundial at their Los Angeles
camp base later in June.
Unless
we come together [at training]; we all work then compare who is playing
well at that moment and that person becomes the number one at that
time. For now, they are all number one. A lot of things come into place before one becomes a number one. Until
we finish our preparations, I will not stick my neck out to say that we
have a number one for the Black Stars at this time,” Yakubu told
Accra-based Power FM.
The Black
Stars goalkeepers’ trainer says the technical team was satisfied with
Fatau’s performance in the qualifiers and so informed him of they wanted
him to rest from the Montenegro game in order to try out other options.
“Fatau
has been fantastic for the team throughout the qualifiers and we want
to give others the opportunity to see what they can do. He knows why he
has been left out.
“For a very
longtime Kwarasey has been on the bench. The last time he played was
when we played against Turkey and in that game we gave him one half and
Razakk Braimah the other half. So this time around, we will give him the
entire opportunity to see what he can do and if we want to see if Adams
can also perform at that level, we will do that,” he explained.
